How to Set Intentional Goals in 2021

If you’re like us at the start of a new year, you’re still recovering from a holiday food coma. This holiday season has been anything but “normal” but we’re thankful for the opportunity to press pause and reset. Here’s to new adventures in 2021 and setting intentional goals for the new year!

1. START SMALL

First, give yourself a pat on the back for everything you’ve accomplished this year (we see you and we’re so proud!). When it comes to setting goals for 2021, think about where you are now and where you want to be. Want to know a secret about New Year’s resolutions? They don’t have to be big! We know you’re wanting to embrace a “new year, new you” but you’re already perfect in your own way so why try to change that?

One of the top goals on our list is to go outside every day. Since many people spent most of their time indoors during 2020, going outside for some fresh air will help clear your mind and give you a change of scenery from your work from home space. We promise going for a walk is the first step you need to spark creativity and establish healthier habits.

2. CREATE HABITS

You might not realize it but many of the things you do every day are habits you’ve established over time. Brushing your teeth, getting dressed, making breakfast, and going to practice are all habits that are a part of your daily routine. We know how important repetition is for setting goals and establishing habits so creating a schedule will help ensure that you’re staying on track. Whether that’s choosing a daily or weekly goal, creating habits allow you to be more consistent by repeating a task at a specific time.

For example, if you want to improve your cooking skills, you might set a goal to prepare a home-cooked meal every Thursday night. By incorporating this goal into your weekly schedule, you are acknowledging the goal in advance and setting yourself up for success.

3. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS

Tracking your progress is key for staying organized and monitoring your goals. We love the app Notion which allows you to make tons of lists for all your goal-setting needs! This all-in-one workspace has templates you can use to journal, write down tasks, schedule your week, track your goals, and so much more. We recommend checking out the “Goals” and “Habit Tracker” templates to easily check your progress and evaluate where you’re at with accomplishing your goals!

4. CELEBRATE YOUR WINS

Accomplishing your goals can be one of the best feelings EVER so make sure you celebrate! You worked hard for your goals so recognize your achievements! Share your success with your family and friends and develop a group of cheerleaders (yourself included!) that can support you through your journey going forward. Use this positive energy to motivate yourself to keep pushing towards your future goals because girl, you got this!

5. LEARN FROM YOUR SETBACKS

Sure, we might fall short sometimes but that doesn’t mean we should give up. Take the time to reassess your game plan and find other ways to chip away at your goals. Remember that change doesn’t happen overnight and that baby steps make up the bigger picture. Lean on others for support and ask for help when you need it. Take a moment to think about all the good that came out of a situation and how you can improve the next time around.

Cheers to 2021 and making the best of the new year!
